Worm count or go on and worm them?

So I seem to major lapsed on my worming regime :( . I last wormed beginning of april with equest with the idea of doing a worm count in july/ august time but kept meaning to do it but never got around to it. The poo is picked up at least every other day. They were done for tapeworm at about this time last year with a think equest pramox. I'm not sure whether to do a worm count or go on and worm them? I currently have some equimax wormer which will obviously do the tapeworm side but not any encysted redworm although I think needs to be colder for this type? So would you do a worm count or use the equimax or use equest pramox so covering all bases? :)
I'm normally on top of worming but seem to of lapsed majorly :(
 
do equimax now for tapeworm, then green equest in december for encysted redworm. start again with worm counts in the spring :)

This would be safer than Pramox where there's been a gap in the worming programme as if encysted worms have built up the fierce clean out the double wormer of Pramox is can be dangerous. The alternative is blood test for tapeworm and then the green Equest for encysted, thus minimising resistance issues with wormers.
 
How much do the blood tests cost?
To add to the problem I have a foal arriving next week, although she will of already been wormed before she arrives. Vet will be out in december to do one of their jabs, if I went the route of a blood test could I leave it til then or would that be too late. :) thanks :)
 
worm them, as there has been a lapse and I think that the risk of a false negative on a one off (not regular series off) test is too high.

I too would use equimax or double dose pyratape/strongid now and then equest dec/jan for encysted redworms (tapes are usually done march-april/ sept- oct though some do only do them once a year).
 
I've just shoved in Equimax into my 2 a fortnight ago, as I (embarrassingly) havent done either of them since FLF came in April (just wormed before coming) with TF last done prior in Feb for encysted redworm.(I blame the missing on my broken ankle etc)
They'll next be done in late Jan/early Feb for encysted.

Don't beat yourself up - pop the Equimax in now & back up for encysted at the next one. Then go onto worm counts for the spring& summer :)
 
I did the same thing, I am using equimax as I have a sensitive horse and want to avoid pramox, so it works out fine as I will use green equest in Jan. I'll do worm counts next year to see how they're getting on. I'm using equimax tabs which conveniently covers both my 500kg horse and my 200kg pony as there are enough tabs for 800kg.
 
Ok have just found out foalie who is hopefully arriving next week has been done with equest, so shall I go on and do my two now with equimax and then redo foalie with equest when other two will be done with equest in dec/jan time? Or do you advise to do foalie with a tapeworm one as well at some point? :)
