Stupid question I know :o, got Buds worm count back. 150epg....?! They said this is a low red worm result...

Does this means he needs worming? If so what would I do at this time of the year? Yard has a hit and miss worming programme so I would like to keep Buds on track with worm counts and worming!

Thanks in advance!! :)

150 epg means the test shows 150 eggs per gram therefore a low worm count, anything under 200 epg is low. However, this time of year you need to worm for tapeworm, these aren't picked up on a worm count. Your Vet will advise you on what product to use for the best. In the early New Year you need to worm for encysted redworm by using eg Equest.

OP, my worm count has just come back for mine - youngster came back with 150epg (large strongyles) and the TB came back with a complete negative count! Looks like all the poo picking has worked! So mine will be wormed with a tape only wormer and then I will do them with a different one in Spring.

Please do not forget to treat for encysted small redworm in late nov/early dec. These are the most pathogenic of all worms affecting horses and are NOT detectable with worm counts or blood tests (although I believe a test may possibly be being worked on)
