I got my worm count results back today from Abbey Diagnostics, very impressed with the speed of their service. It came back as "medium" with a count of 250 so I will be worming her and hoping to get it lower for next time with very careful poopicking.

Does she need Equest or Equest Pramox for this time of year?

Don't forget tapeworm doesn't appear on the worm counts

I'm new to worm counting so bare with me but my understanding from previous posts is that even if she had come back as low she would need worming in Jan/Feb for tapeworm anyway. From what I can see she needs a Pramox now and then I can worm count her again in thirteen weeks time and hopefully she won't need doing

Correct. If you want to confirm Chris (of Abbey) is always happy to discuss your results and advise.

Some people think that tape worm does show on worm counts - I knew of a horse that nearly died from an infestation because the owner didn't know so I'm not sure how well known it is or if said owner was just a total numpty

Equest Pramox contains Moxidectin and Praziquentel. This is a combination of two drugs in one horse wormer treats roundworm, tapeworm, bots, and encysted redworm larvae stages in horses.

Contains Ivermectin and Praziquantel. For the treatment of infestation due to adult and immature roundworm, lungworm, Bots and tapeworm. Use Spring and Autumn as a single dose for tapeworm. L

5 day Panacur Guard is no longer neccessary as equest does in 1 dose what P Equine Guard took 5 days to acheive.

Cool - the 5 day guard was v messy to syringe into TBx's mouth as she won't eat food with it in

Ah, but the Panacur Guard is more effective with encysted small redworm than the Moxidectin (although it's quite good) according to the studies I've read.
And you should really try to rotate the drugs you use to prevent a resistant population developing.
