My local tack shop owner is trained to do worm egg counts so, since it had been a while since the boys had been done, I toddled off yesterday with a couple of steaming Tesco bags to find out what was going on internally.

I got a message from her this afternoon saying 'Your results are marginal, can you let me have their worming history and results of any previous counts you've had done and I'll give you some options.'

Uh-oh, I thought. Marginal sounds bad. Marginal sounds like borderline-having-to-pump-them-full-of-chemicals.

Nope, 'marginal' turned out to be damnyouautocorrect.com for *minimal* - there were TWO eggs in the whole lot (one in each!), so it's just a precautionary tapeworm dose for both of them :) That's now three years since Merlin last had a 'normal' wormer (we still do tape and encysted once a year) - it makes the twice-daily poo pick of the field seem worth it :D

good news, for future info its good to take a big sample of poo and mix it well (as lots of worm egg aggregation goes on)- but your poo picking regime will certainly be doing more than a good enough job!

don't forget you will still need to treat for encysted redworm over the winter :).
