Wormer and Vomiting Question

Wormed the dog this morning (12pm) by putting the 4 tablets into a mini sausage. Didn't feed untill 7pm as recommended. Dog had normal kibble. Just thrown up all over the carpet- kibble still undigested. Dog very sorry for itself curled up under the kitchen table.

Q1. Is this due to the wormer?
Q2. Will she need re-worming- or will it have been digested by now?
Q3. Should I try feeding her later- as obviously other than the sausage and the kibble (which she has just vomited ) she has had nothing to eat since 7pm last night.

Poor thing :(

Was it from the vet, what brand? It will probably due to the wormer, could you ring vet/nurse for advice?

I don't think I would feed her again, just make sure she is drinking, if I did something very plain like chicken and rice in a very small portion.

My fella upchucked earlier (gawd knows what he has eaten in the field :o) and he got a tiny portion for his tea and will be fasted in the morning anyway because he is tracking.

I am sure she will be fine.

It was Johnson's One dose easy wormer. Never used this wormer before- it comes in tablet form one pill for ever 10 Kilo's. She had 4 (weighs 35kg). Instructions said to feed with only minimal food. So she just had the sausage to hide the wormer in. Her kibble came straight back up so I'm guessing it upset her tum. Now my carpet stinks of vomit even though i've washed and vanished it. I feel so sorry for her- first the limp now the vomit. Poor things- she's had a pants week.

I suspect it is because you have used a cheap crap over the counter wormer. And overdosed (though slightly, it is still overdosed). How long has it been since her last worming? Are you 100% accurate on her weight? Next time use a good wormer such as:-
Milbemax; Drontal; Panacur

yep weighed her at the vets this morning 35.1kg. Vet said they had not heard of any problems with that wormer when we asked- they had some we could buy but they said seeing as we already had one- to go with that for the next 12 weeks then we could purcase one from then when it came to vaccinations at the end of may :) so we followed instructions- which actually said not to break the tablets up- but to feed them whole- so we had no option but to give her all 4. No idea when she was last wormed!! She is a rescue dog. We have had her 5 weeks.

Agree, would go for one of the brands suggested instead and double check dosage with the vet.

I know this won't help but try not to be too worried, I am sure she will be fine.

will do next time- but I have a strong dislike of purchasing from vets- I see too many vets trying to make a profit over selling their products- so we did ask the vet if this wormer would be ok- the vet actually said that she had never heard of any problems/complaints. Cant have overdosed according to the instructions- 1 tablet for 0-10kg; 2 for 10.1-20kg, 3 for 20.1-30kg and 4 for 30.1-40kg. I will have to buy it over the counter obviously in future- Previously had our dog wormer from Countrywide/Farm stores with a licence to sell such products but they didn't have the right member of staff in when we bought it- and so told us to try the Johnsons one- I reviewed it on-line and again found no problems :S but hey ho- you live, you learn

hmmm, she was ace at the vets today- made a face a one dog- but totally grumble free! no growls or anything. She goes to training every monday and is fine with some dogs but not others- worst is puppies- and bitches. She's great with adult male dogs. She goes out in a halti so I feel better about knowing I can control her. I normally make her sit and look at me to wait for a treat- then when the dog has passed she gets it- and so far so good. I just don't know why she's not into bitches?

ETA: OH has just text to say that at about 3pm when I was doing the horses - he did feed her a beef bone from the butchers- took it off her before he left. So I dont know if was that? She was sick the day after having a bone about 2/3 weeks ago? Hmmmm something else to consider!!

Couldn't really say if the bone would have done it but as KarynK said in an earlier thread, bones and kibble should be fed as far apart as possible.

Glad to hear she is coming on! Bitch on bitch aggression is very common, tis why we get referred to as bitches!!! I had a female who would not tolerate other bitches, let's just say if I knew then what I know now and am a bit older and wiser, I would not have tolerated HER behaviour.

And remember, the moment she makes a face is the moment you say 'Hey, look at me, never mind who or what is walking past. Good girl'. No later!

If she wasn't socialised properly, like my fella she might freak out at pale or light coloured dogs (silly I know, if she is pale herself!) and bear in mind dogs with flat faces or docked dogs are harder to 'read'.

My fella is weirdly much better with dogs than bitches, but before I started working with him he was hateful to puppies and the day my trainer had to step in and grab him off me to stop him having a real go at one was the day I admitted I needed help.
And me tensing up and going 'Crap, here comes a puppy, what is he going to do???' did not help!

You're doing all the right things, personally I would actually keep her moving as you demand focus, some dogs who are asked to sit as another walks past or is allowed to keep moving perceive a 'Mexican standoff' but if it works for you, it works :)

If you don't want to buy from the vets, buy your dog wormer online (that's what I do). However go for something like Dontrol. I have used Johnsons before (I knew better) both the dog and cat versions - both have resulted in vomiting.
