Wormer - is one dose always enough?

Hello everyone and happy new year.

Rupert (rescue dog) had signs of worms when we homed him a few weeks ago, skinny, food obsessed, thirsty, irregular stools, and 'sledging' on the carpet :mad:

Had wormer from vet when he was castrated, round about the first week in December.

There were visible white worms in his deposits the next day, so I thought we'd got them. All of the above symptoms had improved, but today he's been 'busy' around his back end and just ran into the lounge and decided to sledge along in front of the boys trying to watch James Bond (haha!):D:p

If he did have a large infestation, would one dose have been enough to get rid? They did give him a bigger dose as his weight (26.5kg) was too much for the normal big tablet (up to 25kg) so they gave me an extra small tablet (for up to 5kg).

I know about worming horses but I must say worming dogs is a bit of a mystery

Thank you for any light anyone can shed!

One does is usually enough but there is always the possibility of re-infestation.
Maybe try Drontal next week?
