12hh 250kg pony just put up such a barney being wormed, and obviously human error involved as well, probably mine

that he got 700kgs worth of Equimax.
Vet says not to worry, is he right?

Did my then 8 month foal with Equimax last autumn. I hadn't secure the "dial" properly and he got a double dose. Kept an eye on him but no reaction to it at all.

I have heard knowledgeable people say that the biggest danger if you accidentally overdose a horse with wormer is that the horse may drown in it! In other words, it's harmless. However, the reality is a bit different in that giving unnecessary amounts of wormer can lead to worm resistance to the drugs. So if it just happens once I wouldn't worry but I'd try not to do it regularly!

I'm no expert on this, but logic dictates that an underdose would lead to reistance, not an overdose!!

An underdose of anything that kills (rat poison, antibiotics and presumably wormer) exposes the offending life form to the substance, but not enough to kill it - result = resistance

This is why there is a problem with people not completing courses of antibiotics.

I did mine with Equest last week and read on the back of the packet that it has been tested safe at up to 7 times normal dosage and is probably safe at even higher concentrations, so I wouldn't worry
