I target worm using worm counts so I do this x

December

Worm for encysted redworm e.g. with Equest or Panacur Equine Guard (if no resistance present). Equest also treats bots. Equest Pramox also treats tapeworm

March

1 Worm count all horses. Worm any with a count of 200 + epg.
No need to worm any with low or clear counts.

June

2 Worm count as above

September

3 Worm count as above
Worm for tapeworm if not done already e.g. with Equitape or double pyrantel

December

Worm as for last December

March

Begin worm counts again

Yeah, just moved my pony to see new yard, they worm count. But obviously, need to actually worm him first...

Oh I'm so useless at this side of things without my mums help!

Actually it's best to worm count first if you are moving to a new yard and see what is going on. When did you last worm and which parasites did you target? Is your tapeworm cover up to date?

It has to be said that a single dose of that product is unlikely to have much effect on worms as so many are resistant. The 5 day dose can be useful in some situations but you don't need it if you have used Equest in winter to target encysted redworm.

I was wondering why you chose those products? Why not discuss with the SQP at the shop so that they can advise for your situation?

He hasn't been wormed for just over a year, then it was double dose of strongid P and the 5 day guard.

no, wait thats a lie, it was 6months ago with the same stuff.

The reason I can't discuss it with the person at the shop is that my OH is going in, and I wanted to tell him exactly what it was he needed to worm with, to make it easier.

So, if not these products, what would people use? Im sorry, Im so totally usless with this kind of thing =/

Ring the shop. Email wormers direct and ask their advice. Or westgate labs if you intend to do worm counts. Phone your vet. Anyone who actually knows what they are talking about. Ask the YO how worming works on your new yard.
Worming is such a complicated minefield asking on a forum is the last thing I would do.
