Hi guys. Hope you dont mind me popping over from the dark side :) my sister has asked me for help and sadly*I'm totally clueless but I wondered if you lot could help? Basically she is*wondering what other people use for worming tablets / flea spot ons, how much they are and how often they use them? Also what would people recommend/ warn against using?
She is currently going to the vet monthly for treatments and is horrifiedat the cost. Of course if the wee guy needs it he gets it but just wondering if there is an easier / cheaper alternative?
Thank you :) xx

I get workers and frontline spot on from manor pharmacy/ vet medic. They are so much cheaper than getting them from the vet

Yep, I only use advantage or frontline, but never bought from the vet- online vet pharmacies, which ever is cheapest: no prescription needed.

Wormers wise, I use drontal plus and again source online. Usually discounts for bulk if you can use it quick enough for sell by dates.

i use advocate which i think pretty much kills everything (fleas, worms)..... i use it once every 3/4 months - i think it is supposed to be every 2 according to the packet but im hesitant to use it more regularly ever since ive read about it dissolving/eroding the bars of a metal crate and generally being full of harsh chemicals? (the eco hippy in me says no!)

advocate does not treat for tape worm, usually tape worm are transmitted by fleas so you need to use advocate every 4 wks and droncit (for tape worm) every 3-6 months depending on if you are in a high risk area for tape worm or your dog eats stuff it finds out and about.

OP you sisters vet should give enough product to allow your sister to treat her dog at home for 6 months once it has stopped growing. most vets do a loyalty scheme to reduce the cost of routine preventative treatment its worth her asking them

Advocate is the only licensed product to treat lungworm but must be applied monthly or it's pretty useless. Also as jools said there is no tapewormer in advocate so you still need that 3-6 monthly. I use advocate and milbemax xxxxxx

advocate and milbemax are not liscensed to be given at the same time you have to leave a two week gap between them

I use stronghold spot on flea and milbemax and occasionally advocate...and just so you guys that use frontline know all vets say that frontline doesnt work anymore because it was the main flea treatment for so long the fleas have built up an immunity to it ..just dont want any itchy dogs out there :) Im already starting to itch from reading this thread lol
