Wormers and mites?

I have recently read a few times on here that wormers can help get rid of mites.
So out of interest as one of my boys had mites last year, which wormers are good for this and how does it work?

Wormers with the active ingrediant ivermectin.

We used a double dose of equvalan (sp?) on my mare on the vets advice. I've go no idea if it worked or not though, or how it would work since the mites don't live in the stomach!
Frontline spray (the one for dogs) is also worth a try if you don't go down the pig oil/sulfur route.

Dectomax is used to worm and get rid of mites.
