Worming a new horse

Hi all,

I have recently got a new rescue pony. As I do with the other horses, I sent a worm count sample to Westgate labs. I'm sure you can imagine my horror when the count came back at 4500 epg!

I have never wormed a horse with this type of burden and I'm pretty sure that the pony in question has not been on a worming programme before.

Has anyone had any experience of this? What wormers/ process would you recommend?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I would speak to your vet about it as worming a horse with a high burden can cause colic once they start to shift, a vet can give you the best advice on which wormer and what dosage.
