Our worming schedule has been overlooked and I would like to get it back on track but would like some advice please, as I admit that my wormy knowledge is not what it should be! Our horses were last wormed with Equimax Tabs last spring. They live out all year and we try to poo pick once a week.

I know that the Equimax Tabs do not cover for red worm (which can be encysted) and that these also don't show in worm counts. I'm also aware that I have missed the best time for worming against these, as that probably would have been autumn/ early winter.

I thought about worming with Equest Pramox as that seems to wipe everything out but I've read some horror stories on here about horses with colic from this and some having serious adverse reactions. What do you think it would be best for me to do? Should I just worm with normal Equest to kill off any red worm or is it just totally the wrong time of year?

Any advice much appreciate as always. :)

I would ring and speak to someone like Westgate Lab, they are very helpful and will give you the right advice in what plan of action to take.

It's not the end of the world!! I used equest pramox and have done so many , many times in the past on various horses I have bought with no worming history will no ill effects whatsoever. There are lots of horror stories on the net, like there is with everything - but stop and think of how many horse don't react to the wormer at all!!

This is what came out of my horse 2 years ago when I wormed with Pramox in march when he arrived!

Better out than in!! He had no colic symptoms at all, despite passing redworm for 48 hours after treatment.
Provided the horse isn't very thin I would be happy to worm with Pramox. If you are uncomfortable with the Pramox, then you can worm now with equest and leave it a couple of days and use equitape to cover tapeworms.
