picking my new pony up next week and need some advice about worming. I've been horseless for a while and all the other horses ive had have been kept on livery yards and i've jst wormed according to what i've been told by YO, but this pony is coming to my house so its all down to me.

I have no idea where to start. I know i should womr him as soon as he arrives but with what? The owner said she would worm him before I collected but how would I know for sure that she had? Is it safe to worm him again anyway
just to be sure.

Also is there anywhere I can get a kind off worming programme from which tells me what to worm wit and when? or is it not tha simple?? HELP!!!"

just to add I have three DIY liveries on my yard which the new pony will be turned out with? Do i have to fit in with their worming programme?

Sorry abot the question overload, but I really am clueless!

you can input all the horses, when they were wormed etc and it sends email reminders when you need to do something - brilliant for forgetful bods like me!!

I think it's generally accepted now that sussing out what sort of problem you have and in which horses is best, then treat accordingly.

If you can find out when he was wormed and what with then you can do a worm egg count at the right time (if you enter details on site it will tell you when you should do count) results are back in 2 days and then follow what that suggests.

If you have no worming history and he doesn't look wormy (pot belly, thin topline, starey coat) then I would go for an ivermectin one now (e.g. eqvalan) unless he hasn't had a tapeworm dose and then I'd go for one of the combination ones (e.g. equimax, eqvalan duo) then enter the details whichever you use on the site and it'll tell you when to worm egg count - ace!

There's loads of info about worms etc on the site - it's really useful.
