My mare has just had a high tapeworm count come back.

YO wants us to all worm with Equest Pramox next month to get rid of encysted red and tapeworm.

I’m anxious about using such a strong wormer in one go.

Thinking of worming for tapeworm now, then using a different wormer for encysted red next month.

Any advice or thoughts, would you just do Pramox?

Thank you in advance

I’ve just done Pramox on the advice of my vet. She said she’s only ever had one callout because of its use and that was a foal that was accidentally given a whole syringe. All was well and I’m happy it’s done. I wouldn’t have wanted to wait a month with a high count and you would be best worming at the same time as the others really.

Why next month would be my question, even before deciding what to worm with.

I won't use it again it made my mare really ill knocked her for 6, I've known a few horses that have not been right after using it.

If your horse has a high burden I wouldn't use it I would worm for tape worm now then do an Equest in January.

Thank you, I’ll ask YO if I can worm for tape now and then worm for encysted in January.
