We have a very regular worming regime at the yard where every horse is wormed on the same evening and that they've to stay in the stable overnight. Presumably this is so that any worms come out in the poo inthe stable and not on the fields. My question is - won't it take more than overnight (say 12 hours) for the wormer to have an affect, move through the gut etc and come out the other end in poo form (sorry to anyone eating, whilst reading this!) and therefore the overnight stay in the stable is pointless?

All views welcome on this one!

it say on the pramox packet you need to keep them off pature for 3 days!!! But that is not possible for our horses so we do lots of poo picking over those 3 days. really thorough. i think it is more the chemicals in the wormer than the worms themselves. You have to be careful with dogs eating the poo as it can make them very ill.
hope it helps

My understanding is that its because the chemicals in the wormer are harmful to the grass, not that the worms come out to infect the pasture but I may be way off
