Which wormer do you use this time of year? If you do a egg count do you do it before or after worming, our ym (were on a DIY yard) is talking about getting us all to do a egg count after worming, I thought it would be better to do it before am i wrong?

I do a count before and then worm if necessary (+ worming for encysted small redworm and tapeworm anyway) :) I use Westgate labs and they always send a voucher to get a discount on the next test. If the horse comes back with a high count I think they recommend retesting after worming to make sure it was effective.

ETA there is a sample worming programme on their website http://www.westgatelabs.co.uk/info-zone/worming-programme.htm which you can join at any point after doing a count.

Thats what i do too. I do a count around the time worming would be due & if it's high i'll worm as usual, if not i dont. In early spring & autumn time i do a count 1st just to see how things are going, then worm for tapeworm regardless of the results. If count was high i'd re-test after worming to see how effective it was, if was clear before worming i dont bother re-testing. Hope that makes sense!
