Pup will be 10 months old this month so she can now go on an adult worming programme ( I think!) Which I believe is 3 monthly. What non prescription wormer does everyone use please?

Thank you.

I use drontal for all of mine. I worm when I remember which is roughly every three or four months.

My lurcher however is horrific to worm. I've wormed a lot of dogs but she is freaking impossible. Doesnt matter how far down the back of her throat I get that pill, she will find a way of not swallowing it. Won't take it hidden in anything either. She's too smart! As a result, the last wormer I gave her was a powder wormer Panacur. I don't know how good this is so will ask my vets if they have a powder or liquid wormer when I next nip in.

I have never wormed any of my dogs other than when they were puppies or when they went abroad.

Are worms really a common problem in dogs?
Mine eat disgusting stuff so I would always worm (although I only do it 2 or 3 times a year).
If your dog only eats stuff in the house then maybe not such a risk.

Our vets advice is to only do it when required and that unless they're a big eater of dead things/rubbish when they're out and about this is unlikely to be more than once a year. The only time we do it more regularly is if we travel to a heartworm area (we are in Canada). Then it has to be monthly and once for luck after 30 days.

In the UK we used Drontal Plus to worm. I also used to feed human grade diatomaceous earth proactively. Whether or not it made a difference is unknown. But they rarely got worms.

There is a similar service to poo post for dog faeces for worm testing.
