Worming - don't read if you're having lunch!

Hi everyone,

I've just finished giving my boy a 5-day worming course (Panacur) as he had a high red worm count. I've not seen any evidence of the little blighters when I've been mucking out. Without wanting to go into too much detail (yeuch!) I assumed I would see some in his poo but no signs. Is this normal or does it mean the wormer isn't working..?

I wormed my new horse without a prior FEC, as I didn't trust the seller's claim that he was wormed.

Started 5 day Panacur and on the second day he was passing red poo! I've never seen so many worms :eek: That was on the Friday, I had the vet out on the Monday to geld him and I mentioned the worms (a few on the Saturday, then none) and he said that they were adult worms and to give him Pramox on the sixth day (Tuesday) to be sure to get any encysted larvae.

Worm count two weeks later-no eggs seen. I never want to see that worms like that again!

red worm is a pain as if they are encysted they don't show up in the count, i think the unseasonably warm weather is playing havoc with everything including worms at the moment, friend of mine bought a youngster last summer, has wormed him regularly since but each time just before he's due to be wormed he starts passing roundworm and this last week a whole party of redworm:rolleyes: because she can't seem to break the cycle and get on top of it we had the vet out monday to give him the wormer injection to see if we can knock those worms out once and for all!

Thanks for the info, although could have done with a bit less detail :D We've now finished the course and the tapeworm special - sounds like we got off lightly compared to some of you!
