Hi, this year our horses are on a reduced worm programme, ie droppings tested regularly and if clear, not wormed but always wormed for tapeworm each spring and autumn.

Just deciding on the wormer for autumn for tapeworm and just remembered the encysted red worm which I know needs doing annually and can't remember if it's spring or sutumn?

If we used Pramox in October would that be too early for encysted redworm? Answers on a postcard please!

It is a bit early. Why not give it a month or two later instead?

An alternative is to use Equitape now for tapes, then plain Equest in Dec for encysted redworm (and bots if you need to cover them too)

I worm for Tapeworm begining Sept- and worm for small redworm end Oct beginning Nov with Panacur 5 Day Guard and then also in February.

If you used your Pramox I think it would be fine in October.

Tape in October and encysted is best done December time. I worm count beginning of April and beginning of September. As there only my two horses in the field, I poo pick nearly every day and for several years now they are always clear or very low counts, these are all I need to do in the spring/ summer.

In early October I worm for just tape, or a combi wormer if the September count has showed more than 200 eggs.

I then worm with Equest in late December for encysted red worm/bots etc.

For my routine, this works well and I rarely have anything other than low or clear counts.
