My 5.5 month colt had Equimax at the beginning of October.

Vet has just been out for his first vaccine and given me a Pramox.

Just had a look and Pramox isnt meant to be used for anything younger than 6.5 months of age.

So should I leave it a month and give him a pramox dose in late January?

Or give something different now? Perhaps leave the pramox for next year when he is older as its so strong....

I personally would not use Pramox on a foal (or even on my adult horses) but tended to use Panacur and then Equest when they got to 6 months

I'm another who wouldn't use Pramox on a foal , I also now don't use it on anything if mine. I've seen too many severe side effects,.particularly in native ponies.
I don't want to scaremonger as many people do use it repeatedly with no ill effects whatsoever. It just comes down to personal choice.

Do not use Pramox!!! I'm pretty surprised vet advised that- return it to the practice for a refund.
You can just use the normal green Equestrian to cover for encysted small redworm

The equimax will have covered you for tapeworm.

I’d be really reluctant to use pramox on a weanling.

What you need reasonably soon will be encysted red cover. Either Equest or Panacur guard. Personally I’d leave it a while longer and do after a cold spell.

Personally I would leave it for now. He's had his equimax.

I'd be inclined to use a 5 day panacur at the end of jan/beginning of feb when the temperatures 'should' have been lower for a period of time. It's a bit kinder on the tummy.

Thanks for the guidance.

I have personally always used Pramox so will use this one at some stage. Ill check the shelf life on it, but it should have about 2 years on it, so I'll use it when he's more mature.

Ill hold off for now and give him something less hardcore at the end of January.

Many thanks.
