Hi there,

Ok first post but I've been a lurker round these forums for awhile and I need some advice ,Ok so here is the low down,

I have a 10 yr old mare who over new year had a pelvic flexure impaction that went on for 9 days, on the fourth/fifth day we decided to take her to newmarket equine hospital where they continued the liquid parafin (she also had IV fluids etc) but no surgery or anything. We got her home on the 9th day (they wanted to be sure) and her discharge notes said she could return to normal on the 10/1/09 and so obviously me being the paranoid owner I am she's still not back to normal normal but its the livery yard policy that we worm all of our horses together and we were going to do it this week but Im worried as I don't want to put anything in her system if it could upset her again. Logically I can't see any problem with it but it does seem soon... hmm!

Any advice or anything would be much appreciated,

Thanks MM x

IMHO I would not worm a poorly horse, you are putting poisons into the body and, if that body is not well, the wormer could have a bad side effect. When I take in rescues with an unknown history then I worm with Panacur 5 day guard as this is the most gentle of wormers, no matter what the vets say! Which wormer are you all due for this time?

i would not worm a poorly horse owner explain that to your YO that you will keep her in or but her on her own in the field and poo pick so no horses are at risk of catching anything and you will worm as soon as she is better!
