I have left a message for vet but I’m impatient.

Yo wants horses worked ASAP. Is it safe to worm Robin now with the thought he might have ulcers? Or should I wait till ulcers diagnosed and treated (or not diagnosed at all). Plan is to work tomorrow pm and leave in sat so an idea soonish would be good hence why I’m asking.

The wormer wont do any long term harm with ulcers. But in the short term they may react and make him uncomfortable. But again they might not. Has he ever reacted to wormers before and what one are you using?

Can you not offer to do a worm count instead? Explain to YO your horse is going in for a scope for ulcers and as a result you don’t want him to have unnecessary chemicals.

Probably worming for encysted red which wouldn’t show on a fec
I wormed my horse with diagnosed ulcers. He got a bit colicky with pramox and it did set us back, even though he’d had it before.
From then on and even now with different horses I worm separately with no issues.

No I won’t be allowed to do a worm count or anything other than working. We worm count at times through the year and generally don’t have to worm but this worker is not optional.

Does the yard owner administer the wormer?

I have had this in the past on other yards and have asked to administer myself, done the worm count and if the horse dosent need the wormer, sold it on.

No we give it to our horses. Generally they are worm counted and if needing wormed (which Robin never does) they are wormed. Then once a year they are all wormed to include tape. That wormer is now.

Anyway vet advised it was safe to worm him which was the question I was asking.
