Ok, I don't get why Equimax IS considered safe for pregnant mares when it contains praziquantel (and ivermectin) Anyone?

Because Equimax has spent the money and done all the testing required for licensing for this purpose in the UK!
The Australian version of Equest Pramox (Equest with Tape) is identical to its UK counterpart and is licensed for use in pregnant mares in Oz (and is used widely by all the top studs!) And the Aussies are just as hot on suing as the Americans - so if there WAS a problem with its use in pregnant mares, we'd have heard about it big-time!!
The UK has VERY strict licensing/testing requirements - so not all manufacturers think it's worth jumping through all the hoops for the size of the market. Many breeders - myself included - use Equest Pramox (or the Oz equivalent!
) with absolutely no problems - but if there WAS a problem, we couldn't complain!
Ah, so it's about licensing and not the actual ingredients in the wormer? I was going to worm PF today with Equiverm (our equivalant to Equimax) and had a moment of panic!
That was my first question too PF but very quickly realised the reason. It's like Citronella, one manufacturer can still use it, others won't pay for the testing. Nothing more, nothing less.
Knowing background info on verm-X, I would NOT use it

neither would i use verm - x!!!
my pregnant mare will be wormed next week with equest!
Eqvalan duo safe after 1st third of pregnancy - reason being again not tested in mares less than 3m pregnant - but I would use it before if I needed to.
Would agree about the w.e.c. but wrong time of year - don't get true picture now as most worms "overwinter" as non-egg laying larvae - so could be full of damaging worms with no or low w.e.c.
