should be every 3-6mths depending on risk levels. dogs pick up roundworms easily and ignoring the fact they can carry them without any symptoms at a low level, they pass them out in their faeces and when you're walking them in public places this presents a public health hazard. kids who pick up roundworms can go blind.
I don't know anyone who worms their adult dog. Puppies, absolutely, but not adults. My vet has never mentioned it, but he always makes sure we're on Heartguard for the summer months.
Guess I'll have to bring this up next time we go in.
maybe it's different in the USA, but roundworm is certainly a problem in the UK and a well known public health hazard, although not that many people realise it can cause blindness in children.

Now that you come to mention it, I remember the warnings about dog poop and children's playgrounds (in England, that is).
I guess it isn't a huge issue in the city, otherwise my vet would harp on it, just like he does with Heartguard, rabies boosters etc. Still, I'm going to ask all the same.

More of a future reference type thing. Don't want to be a bad mummy now
And correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought that wormy pups was a sign of poor breeding practices.
I worm my dogs every 3 months with Revolution. It covers heartworm as well as all the other worms PLUS it kills fleas and ticks too. Darned expensive but worth it in my opinion.
After 6 months old I worm every 3 months for Roundworm, and twice a year for Tapeworm (unless there is 'evidence'!) I have not seen evidence of Tapes for years!!!
Breeding bitches are treated for Roundworm before mating and during pregnancy, then pups and mum are wormed regularly until they leave home.
I change wormers each time, so that they cannot build up a resistance to one drug...... same with flea treatments too.
Pups that are wormy when they go to a new home, imo are a sign of poor breeding practices. However I have found that no matter how regularly you worm the dam puppies will always have worms. But as long as the breeder worms them correctly, i.e. every 2 weeks from about 2 weeks old, they should not be wormy when they go to their new homes.
