I think I've cracked it and I understand worming then I get confused again! Someone at my yard said the equest/equimax wormers have as yet got no resistance to them, so you can use them year after year, is this true does anyone know?? thanks

Its best to use 3 year program so that your horse doesnt build a resistance to a particular wormer.
If in doubt ask at your vets, they are good and normally have a three year program all ready worked out.

I'm not surprised you are confused as information changes all the time.
Fort Dodge who make Equest/pramox do say you can continue to use it every year, and it is the most effective product. However continued use does not bode well for the future so we should really keep these products for when they are really needed.
Equimax is only ivermectin with praziquantel for tapes so is not the same as Equest.
Recent studies are showing resistance to ivermectin is starting.
A three year rotational programme is hard to use as benzimidazole wormers are not likely to be effective and pyrantel ones may also not be.

The best way to worm is to use a worm count programme if you possibly can and then only the wormers you need. Visit A sample reduced worming programme from Westgate Labs for more information or ask for help. I am an SQP and understand worming and I'm always happy to help if I can. I know it can be a minefield!
