hi
please can someone give me a really simple plan to warm my horse as i am totally rubbish at working out all the stuff online.

she is in a field by herself in summer, however the field has only been hers for the last two summers and was never poo picked befor that and have 1 horse to 1 acre on it. the field is about 2 and a bit acres.

she is on a 2 acre field with two other horses in winter with added hay.

she was wormed twice a year when at her last home. since ive been incharge of her worming over the last year and 11 months she has had one wormer march 2011 one worm count done which was low so didnt warm her september 2012, then one warmer novemebr 2011.

so do i worm now. or what do i worm

I'd have a look at Westgate Lab's website, and send off for a starter pack worm count/info kit. It's free to send off for and they give you lots of advice, and charge about ten pounds on return to do an egg count. They'll give you a sample plan so you know when to count/worm (you need to worm for tape and encysted redworm autumn/winter anyway as these don't show up on counts) :)

i did my worm count with westgates and i dont understand as there are so many differant types of warmer. i didnt warm for the autumn and winter ones that dont come up on an egg count

Another vote for using Westgate's here. You said that's who did your worm count, what were the results? did you contact them and ask what wormer to use? If not email them and ask - they are really helpful and can suggest what wormer (if any) you need to use.

You can also sign up with them now for email reminders - they will let you know when your worm counts are due :)

Agree with above, they'll give you lots of advice.

If I've read their info pack correctly- providing your worm counts are v low then all you need to worm for is tapeworm in september (Equitape/Double pyrantel) and redworm in december (Equest/Panacur Equine Guard). It also says that Equest Pramox covers both of these, but not sure if it's ok just to give that in sept and nothing in december.

It's all quite new to me too! x

Worm now with Equest Pramox (or the five day panacur equine guard - more effort!). They do, amongst the rest, your tapeworm and encysted redworm which dont show up in worm egg counts. Then you should be good until summer then just worm with a basic wormer.

Definitely keep up with the worm counts, ite good to know whats going on in there.
