I've just bought a new pony and don't know his past worming regime.

I've had a worm count done and its come back as zero and the vet has suggested using Equest Pramox to cover against tape and small redworm that the worm count can't check.

Does this wormer cover against all worms and therefore I've worm counted for nothing?

I prefer not to use any drugs if possible so thats why I got the worm count done.

Any replies gratefully received.

Equest Pramox is a good product to use this time of year as you should worm for tapeworm at Spring and Autumn. Probably a little early as the grazing season isnt fully over yet but as you say, you dont know your new pony's worming history. You should worm for encysted redworm with Equest (the one in the green box) around January, then a product which covers tapeworm in Spring. Egg counts can then be done through Summer until Autumn, effectively only worming 3 times per year, depending on your egg count results.

Westgate Labs are good for advice but the above is what I do. Poo picking helps reduce the problems and keeps your fields looking nice and the grass growing.

Hope that helps
