Worming.

I’m a bit crap at dog worming. The puppies were wormed regularly as per my vet. Older dogs when I think “heck I’ve not wormed the dogs in ages”
Then I go to viovet or similar and buy something that isn’t Bob Martin and feed it to them.
Slightly ashamed really, I’m pretty clued up horse wise.
OH spoke to his gun dog trainer friend who said these days he sends off for fec. I didn’t know it was a thing with dogs.
The thought is slightly more “Eugh” than getting horse samples but that’s fine.
My q is does it show everything I need to cover? (As in horse fec don’t show encysted red and tapes)
Can I rely on just the test?

Depends on where you go but I get my dogs poop tested every 3 months for faecal eggs and lungworm and I think these are the main things I need to cover so I'm happy with it.

I use poo post for the horses no idea if they do dogs, will have a look.

If they don't let me know and I'll give you the website I use, I post them and usually get the results within 5 days. Take samples over 3 days and post on Monday to ensure it gets there

Other than one occasion when they said I didn't send enough sample to test I've been very happy with their service. If you use them make sure you fill up the case they provide

We use worm count every three months or so, been using them for a good few years.

None of the samples we've sent in have ever returned a positive result for any flavour of worm.

Yeah I use Wormcount every few months as well, it's a bit pricey - there may be cheaper ones out there, but always happy with the service. I stopped worming Joe when he was 5 and he's 9 now, I never really liked giving him the chemicals - he's not had any positive results for worms in that time. Mind you, he's not that 'grubby' as dogs go and doesn't eat much he shouldn't (aside from cat poo, rabbit poo and grass) so I'm sure some dogs are much more likely to pick up worms!
