Worms!!

Girl on my yard found some tiny white worms in her horses droppings when mucking out think it was moving. Assume these are pin worms. anyway horse is a 3 year old and she said it had been on a worming programme with the breeder and she has continued using Equest. Horse was last wormed in December.

Not knowing much about worms, it all seems complicated as everyone at the yard has different opinions and favorite brands to use! Can anyone tell me what she should do? She said she was going to call the vet today so I am sure it will all be in hand by tomorrow but I am just wondering should the horse have a dose of regular wormer now? Should she be sending off for a worm count? How should she manage it?
I am sure I can find out if I trawl the internet but it's always interesting to hear other's comments on here! Thanks!
 
she should take a dung sample to the vet, or send it off to a lab, to get an accurate worm count. probably worth having the blood test count done too, tbh.
fwiw i bought a filly from a recognised breeder, and it was absolutely infested with worms.

I agree with what has been said. You need to have the vet in for him to take a blood sample & also a dung sample for analysis. Once both have been analised you will have the full picture of your horses problem & the vet can advise you how it is best to treat. It must be sorted because of the colic issues with a possible worm burden. If you give the wrong wormer you will only kill of some of the infestation & the rest will remain.
 
Update!

Vet has said to her to worm the horse again with usual wormer, turns out he was done Oct not Dec as I had thought, so he is due for his next dose. Vet didn't ask for worm count or blood but to do worm count in a couple of weeks if still concerned.
