Hey everyone im new! right now for my problem.
I have a cob colt i have had for about 6 weeks (brought of gypsy's) he was skinny and pop bellied, prominent back bone showing, he is 2.5, had the vet out checked him over and passport and chipped, vet said he was full of worms and recommended panacur equine guard 5 day wormer, this was all done in the first week of buying him. So now my problem is i have been feeding him up and this belly hasn't gone, back bone still prominent now i would have thought by now he would have started putting on a bit of weight and the belly to go down a bit, do you think he could still have worms? thanks

The belly will go in time, however as already mentioned, send a sample to westgate and see what comes back.
Best thing to feed that lad is hay....as much as he will eat. Will work out better for him, and cheaper for you, rather than filling him full of hard feed.
We are going into winter so you will not see him put on the same kind of weight as you would in the summer.
Might also help to lightly rug him.

He has got middle weight combo on for warmth and is stabled, he has alibi hay, as well as 2 feeds a day, I think a worm count will be the next step, thanks for your replys :) x

Worm count now and see where you are up to with worm control. It's a good time as the first dose you gave him will now have come to the end of its dosing gap. It sounds as though he will need worming and monitoring for a while till you get him sorted but if he is well in himself then that is not a problem. (Gill at Westgate Labs)

Just remember worm counts dont show up everything! I would really use a wormer that covers most of the big issues and do it over 4 days. That way you know you have covered worms

Do a worm count so you know the extent of the worms.
Obviously this won't show up all worms but it will help.

Sounds like he needs worming a again.
The 5 day guard doesn't work on my horse.
Pramox is a very good one.

But speak to vet. They may prescribe steroids to help prefer colic when worming.

Be surprised if the vet gives steroids for worming as that could induce secondary lami. More likely to give a probiotic and to worm over 4 days with a wormer that covers tape (doesnt show on bloods) and bots. We did about worming in pharamacology not too long ago. Was very interesting :D
