Worried About Boyracers * RANT & Advice needed

I know that this is not really equine but it is related. When my husband and I arrived back from shopping last night about 8.30pm. There was a van parked blocking our farm entrance (which has double five bar gates on) and were closed at the time. My husband and I walked round to the van as (we live on a quiet country road and about 21/2miles from the nearest village) When, we approached the van and shone mobile light on there. There was 2 young lads in the front and 3 lasses plus dog in the back of it and shouted abuse. I still told my husband to come into the house and leave it.

We kept an eye out of the next couple of hours and another van came along and it was obviously some mates as they were talking for ages. At about 11pm, they went but then came back about 11.30pm - must have gone to get some food. My husband went out to check the livestock (including my horse in his stable) last night and he had been really upset with all the noise from them and a car radio loudly playing.

This morning, went out to sort my horse and they had chucked out all their rubbish on the farm entrance and verge. I hate people dropping litter - its a big bear of mine.

Can anyone suggest what to do if they come back tonight or in the future? They are blocking the entrance to the farm and would not be able to get any tractors with implements. Is it worth reporting it to the police?
 
Have you got a tractor? If so park it in front of your gates. ;) Phone call to the police wouldn't got amiss either, even if they don't do anything they will have logged the call if anything more does kick off. Don't let your hubby approach them though, not worth it. :(
 
Yes I would report it to the police. Just so they at least have it on record incase of any other problems. Did u get a registration number? They might have been up to no good drugs etc as u are in a remote area. I wouldn't approach them as u will probably just get abuse! I hate it we are moving due to gangs hanging around on our estate and keeping us awake at night with the racket!! Good luck :)
 
Also might be worth putting big sign in front of gates saying 'no parking, needed for access' and yes report to police. Also make a note of their registrations and write everything down (times, dates of disturbance etc).
 
If you report it to the police they will probably arrange to drive by when on patrol and move them on. That's what they do near me, just drive past regularly and move them on. The boyracers get bored and stop coming. As they will get out of their cars sometimes, and probably think of them as their pride and joy, how about a load of cow **** spread widely in the area in front of your gate? A temporary inconvenience for you, but what fun!
 
If anyone did this to us (we have a small holding), we would get the tractors out and start using them, put all the lights on and intimidate them back - they would have to move for you to access your property. Farm machinary is very intimidating to people, due to size and power.
Just get the tractor whith the lights on, unchain the gates, and shout thorugh the window, 'you're going to have to move, sorry!', and sit there with your engines running and revving. I think most people would move - I would!
 
Tractor with big bale spike on the front sounds about right but stay polite--you dont want them coming back and torching your barn
But def get registration and report
Please be careful many of these youths seem to carry knives these days
 
Report to the police. They were obviously up to no good.
If you got the registration number, ask the council to remove the rubbish (fly-tipping) and give them the reg. They will follow it up.
I'd certainly be tempted to take the tractor through the gate, although as said by other posters, it might be best not to get into a confrontation with them. You never know what they might be carrying.
 
Report them to the police if they show up again and the police will move them on. I used to drive out with the 'cheltenham cruise' on Sunday nights and everyone used to park up on a trading estate after everything had shut for the night. Eventually police started coming down and moving people on as the business owners were complaining about the rubbish. In all the time I was going, there was no damage done to the shops whatsoever, just rubbish. Also put a sign on the gate that it is used 24/7 so please could they not park there. Police will also be happy to 'tell them off!' about noise pollution :)

These people normally just want a place to park and meet up and I'd be very shocked if they caused any damage or harm to your property and animals!
 
I would make a note of the police non-emergency number, and everytime you see these people take down the reg and ring the police (straight away) the police will drive past and move them on. They can take action regarding the litter and the anti-social behaviour. They will probably also check their insurance/licence etc too. There is a chance that this could be drug dealing or dogging or something as you mention vans rather than typical boy racer hot hatches so best to get the police involved. Boy racers tend to like business parks and car parks where there is room for lots of them and they can check each others cars out, play the stereo and do a few handbrake turns, quiet rural lanes often attract dogging - which is pretty unpleasent too! I turned up to view a horse, parked in the gateway as instructed assuming the car I was next to was the seller and it was a couple at it!! :eek: It wasn't even dark!

Eventually they will get fed up with being moved on.

The thing that worked for us when there was a problem with teenagers riding trail bikes on the park (and illegally on the road) was a camera with a strong flash. You don't need photos just to make them think they are being photographed or filmed, but obviously if you can get photos as evidence of anti-social behaviour that is helpful too.
 
We have this at the end of our track entrance to our stables (although we don't live there sadly)

We record each time we see them there, and their numberplates - a variety of people use this spot for sh*gging, smoking gear and dropping litter - the first two I don't really mind, but the last makes me :mad:

We do ring the police, and luckily have a friend on the force who stops by whenever he can. One time a car full of lads was parked amongst the litter and he stopped and asked if they had dropped it. They said no and indeed, it might not have been. He told them that if they didn't pick it ALL up and take it with them, he would charge them with littering - brilliant :D
 
Report them to the police. They might be able to patrol the road and scare them off a bit or give them a warning if they are doing anything wrong.

Just as a percaution aswell i'd park a vehicle so that they cant come in to your property and make sure everything is secured.
