We have recently moved yard with a new horse. We have been there 1 month now & our boy has been in seclusion for 2 weeks & is now in with 2 other geldings. He is second in the pecking order. My concern is; we feed our boy after he has been ridden. He is totally unfit & no muscle and slightly under weight (we are working slowley on all of this). He lives out. When we turn him out into the field afer he has been fed & worked he seems to be getting chased about a lot. Should I be concerned about colic because he has just eaten.

I wouldn't be so concerned about colic but more worried about a potential injury if his being chased about so much, perhaps the horses his been paired with are not suitable for him if his being chased by them.

Thankyou for the feedback I will keep an eye on that you could possibly be right. Can I just check you dont think because hes just eating & is running about that this could cause colic x

It's hard to say because I haven't seen how much his running around but if it's constant fast running to the point his getting sweaty then yes it possibly could I suppose, but if his being chased that badly everyday and the fact you are worried about it causing colic I would want him out of that field.

Can't you leave him in for a while before turning out so his had time to digest his feed ? what feed does he get as some bucket feed can be fed before riding if it's mainly fibre
