Worried about 'horse passport'

Before moving Fleur next week my current, lovely YO decided to help me out a bit because I've been so busy with work recently. She told me that she'd organised microchipping and ordered a passport for Fleur. Sure enough I got the bill and details of Fleur's microchipping a week ago, and today I received a letter from my YO saying that my passport had arrived - except it looks nothing like a passport. It's from Virbac Backhome and includes more details of Fleur's microchip. I looked up their website and they look like they're just a microchipping service. The document is just a simple one page jobby. My YO is certain that this is a passport - but she's been very ill and now gets easily confused, so I don't want to insult or offend her by questioning her. Can anyone clear this up for me? Am I worrying needlessly and this constitutes a passport? Or do I need to try and order a passport and hope it arrives on time for her move next week?
 
Hey, no thats not a passport by the sounds of it. A passport should have diagrams of the horse with its marking detailed on it and usually has to be done by a vet (alot of them have photos of the horse as well). You'll also have pages in it for vac records and various other recordables. That does just sound like something that comes with microchipping ::o
 
Not heard about them before but my horse passport states 'passport' on it. It took about two weeks to come through.

Unless it has space to enter vaccination details, description of horse etc I wouldn't have thought it was one sorry. She may have requested a passport that's waiting to be delivered and what you have just recieved is paperwork?

It might be an interim document whilst awaiting the proper passport being issued.

I spoke to an issuing agency a couple of days ago - they said it would be four to six weeks, but they would send out an interim document in the meantime.
 
Thanks for the replies everyone. I think I'll give the company a call tomorrow just to double check that it isn't an interim document. Niagaraduval - I understood that passports are either small booklets or official looking documents? This is just a piece of ordinary paper with written details of her microchip number, her colour and owner's address, and doesn't mention anything about being a passport.

My problem now is that I can afford to get a fast track passport done for her, but the document seems to need a vet's signature and stamp and I just can't afford my vet's exotrtionate call out fees just to sign a document. SO stressed about this, and desperately trying not to get annoyed at YO as she has been trying to help.
 
I'm afraid that you have no alternative but to have the vet out as they MUST complete and verify the horse's identity by the markings etc. This becomes part of the passport.

I would suggest that you either Google horse passports or go on BHS website and find a passport issuer and get an application form asap and arrange visit from your vet.

Sorry - there is no other way now!

I dont think it is a passport. It is the microchip registration. I have one for my dog. The passport would need some sort of diagram of the horse done by a verified person such as a vet and would need to have records of vaccs etc. (I am not sure if the microchipping overides the need for a diagram now- defra could tell you)

Plus there will be a part you have to sign saying the horse is not for human consumption.If that isnt there then it is not a passport.

Virbac backhome are just the microchipping company, it is not a passport. I deal with microchipping with this company on a daily basis.
