It is coming up to that time of year when my horses jabs are due and I am already dreading it! I won't bore you but last year I had a different vet and made a complete hash of it...basically the vet was tentative because he had hurt his leg and proceeded to mess about finding the right place to jab, which made my boy nervous and then it went from bad to worse. Short of it is my horse was very worried by the whole experience so I want to re-gain his trust and make things easier this time so it does not become a major problem.
Well first things first, I have booked my original vet who is a lady I trust...my horse is happy with her and she has a nice but confident manner...so that will help.
But is there anything else I can do on the day...would a bucket of food at the front end help? Any suggestions?

Mine are having their jabs tomorrow! I usually position a scoop of delicious food in front of them and they are so greedy they dont even notice the jabs. Def worth a try!

As a bit of comfort - my horse had some in patient treatment for an abcess in the shoulder and had to have several jabs a day. When I collected her the vet said that they didnt think she would be safe to jab any more because she had become quite dangerous so sent us home with anti-biotics to put i her food rather than the injectable type they really preferred to use for her condition.

Two months later she was due her annual vaccination and i got into a right old stew about how she would behave - I made the area really safe, warned the vet, gripped the headcollar, prepared myself for her to become a loony - she was as good as gold and has never been a problem since.

Good chance your horse will have forgotten by now so just keep things calm for him.

Missy is getting hers today, was supposed to be this morning but vet didnt come , had to ring them after another arranged appointment .

So they are now coming at 3pm , so hoping she will be good, will have a packet of polos at hand . :P

Mine are having theirs tomorrow too. One horse is difficult to do as she gets vey nervous when the bet comes and the vet isn't that good at doing it on a moving horse! So we always just load her in to the trailer and have her done in their, very quick and easy! No stress and hassle free!

showjump2003 , Do you never have bother loading ?

A few people I know done this , for vaccinations and rasping in the horsebox, they had great difficulty loading because of this .
Horse also got head shy because he hit his head in the box .
