Hi hun, try not to worry to much, hard to say i know!!! once that they find out the cause of lameness there are lots of treatments available!!! time and rest is always the best cure!! try and be positive!! my horse went lame for 4 months on and off ended up nerve blocking found out it was in the foot!! she had the tildren drug due to navicular. 3 weeks later she went crippled to the point of no weight bearing then it happened the biggest abcess burst and its now 7 years down the line and she has never been lame since!!!!! xxxx

He's been nerve blocked and x rayed. Never gotten any worse but pulse remains. In straight line trot up he's 1/10ths lame and in school on the right rein he's 2/3 10ths lame! So gutted!

It sounds possible .
Try not to worry until after the scan ,
I hope you get an answer .
Then at least you know what your dealing with .

I have just been through the same as you, with my horse going in for nerve blocks and scans. It's a nightmare not knowing what it might be but the vets will do their best for your horse.

Unfortunately x rays showed severe arthritis in both his hocks but it's better once you know what the problem is.

Good luck, hope it shows the problem and you can sort it. :)

He's lame on the right. I'm worried it's going to be a DDFT tear or something!

I know that not knowing is a worry . . . you will be in knots until the scan, but try and keep things in perspective. I'm currently dealing with a proximal suspensory injury (confirmed by scan) and it's such a roller coaster, but the support on here has been incredible and so has my vet . . . try not to let your imagination run away with you until you know exactly what you're dealing with, and once you do try and get a really good handle on treatment, prognosis, etc. Remember, we are all here to help and there is a wealth of great information on here :).

Trust your vet and rely on your HHO boardmates . . . :). Fingers crossed for you . . .

Thank you guys it's just hard not to think of the if buts and maybes and conventional and alternative treatment. He's been barefoot in front since September last year and has been okay up til now. Although his feet are not great and he has high low heels. His hind feet have also regressed somewhat. Just so frustrating and sole destroying knowing probably won't be able to ride him this summer!

My poor boy seems to be getting more sore and has pulse in both feet. Should I keep him stabled until his MRI, can I leave boots on 24/7. Just want to make him more comfortable. He's currently in during day and out at night. But it's about a 10 minute walk to field and that includes road and stony tracks.

Sorry to hear this, I would ask my Vet, but I would be inclined to keep him in if he's sensible.

I hope your week isn't too stressful x

What did the x-rays show? Pulse indicates pain and inflammation. I would talk to your vet and, unless he says otherwise, I'd be stabling on a deep bed and giving bute and sedalin (both have an anti-inflammatory effect).

Your poor boy - and poor you.

Hasn't seen vet for a while but he was okay to continue with his routine. His x rays were clean. Hence now an MRI but he seems to be getting more sore.

Only thing is my vet wanted me to re shoe before I had x days but I have decided against it as want to keep him barefoot so just have a feeling they will just pressure me to do that.

I'm going to let the barefoot gurus answer this one then . . .

I would keep him in on a deep bed on soaked hay just in case .
And ring the vet .
Why does the vet want the horse shod before X-ray it would have thought it would just muddy the water .

Sorry I explained that wrong. Before going down the MRI route after he had x rays vet said to to re shoe as he needs the support and cannot live in boots. I decided against re shoeing him as didn't see how that would make him sound or get rid of his pulse. So I wanted him to have an MRI to find out what's going on. Now insurance has come through I have it booked. He has been quite playful in field and has a reasonable amount of grass so not sure if he's made it worse (if it's tendon or ligament) at same time not sure if keeping him box rested is a good idea either? I may keep him in through until the MRI is done, all I know is I want him kept barefoot until he's better then if he's back in work and I find he just can't cope without shoes throughout summer I will re shoe then remove for winter.
