If you cannot bear to leave your elderly or infirm pooch at home whilst you rock over to Burghley for the horse trials, then don't despair.

Option 1 is the on site dog creche.

Option 2 is to push your faithful hound round in one of these. A similar one was spottted today being pushed round the Burghley X country complete with an elderly labrador in situ. The owners were *ahem* not young themselves, so it will have been quite an effort to get it up and down round the typically hilly course.

There were a few of these going round Blair most with obviously elderly dogs however I was a bit surprised at one with two dogs in neither of whom appeared old and both were wearing dresses!

Oooooo no, that moves into the realms of dressing up dolls as babies for me..... I fully accept that some people may wish to do that, and if it doesn't harm anyone/anything then that is fine, but I think it would not be deemed 'usual' behaviour.....

You can tell I work in HR :p

Yep definitely not normal behavior in my book.

I can understand people people pushing around elderly dogs no problem, would do the same, but dressing young dogs up in clothes and also pushing them around? seems weird to me and bordering on creepy.

Update to this thread for Burghley 2019 :).

Spotted this combination on the XC course today, and the very friendly owners were happy for me to take pics. Dog is an elderly rescue who cannot be left at home alone, but he is getting too creaky to go for long walks. He loves his buggy, apparently, he’ll potter about for the first mile or two of a walk then asks to go aboard. The couple said that they feared that they would be laughed at today, but lots of people had come up and made supportive remarks.

I saw a standard poodle in one today, and most years I see a rottie in one on cross country day. I’m always surprised to see it’s still going the next year.

Burghley can be notoriously fickle, I have sat in freezing rain, but now September is pretty warm.
I can not see any virtue in taking an elderly dog in a stroller or any dog there.
One year I took my lurcher just for company, he loved the food walk, he was stealing food out of my bag faster than I could buy it but as soon as it got hot I went home, as I am pretty local.
I go Thursday/ Friday and if you want to do shopping it’s still too busy for a dog unless you are going to walk the course. It’s bad enough having to take children and they are easily bribed with food and money.
Mine are left at home in the cool and are walked by my girl Friday who spoils them and who is far nicer than me.

We've got an elderly lab thats been every year for a decade, and these things crossed my mind as he cant do long walks, but i thought being bumped around all day on uneven ground can't be nice for them. Plus the cost of those things for a large dog!!!

As it happens hes gone downhill so we havent even dared leave him home with my dad. We're having a cuddley, possibly last, weekend with him.

Sorry to hear that.

I think they're great for elderly dogs but I'd probably go for a dog backpack to cover all terrain. We've got a young dog and an old dog and like fell walking. The old one is still fit enough to manage, but it'd be a shame to be restricted in future. He could have a break when he got tired.
He's currently wearing a post op collar to protect his eye and we nearly left the dogs at home as we were going to a boating event. Fortunately, we checked it out the night before, so knew it wouldn't be too busy and he didn't get his head knocked, but a buggy is useful for busy venues when small dogs get under people's feet and elderly ones can't move out of the way.
Our dogs enjoy days out with the family, so I'd hate to leave them behind just because they get tired.

I saw them walking around, the dog looked like he was enjoying his day out; I really regret not getting one for my old boy, when he got too old to walk far I used to leave him at home (with my OH so he wasn't left alone) & take the younger dog. He loved going on outing & would have enjoyed reclining in his chariot while I pushed him!

So sorry. It’s so hard.
