Pointless post really but my son's preciuos pony has gone very lame and am waiting for the vet as we speak.

He was fine when I bought him in last night and rode and led him off one of mine. The hedge trimmers had been out so am wondering if he has picked up a thorn of the cuttings.

He came out mildly lame this morning, so popped him on the lunge in the school to get a better look and would say he was about 2/10ths lame.

Turned him out on a little patch of grass next to the stables, booked the vet (can't get hold of farrier), to just kept an eye on him.

About half an hour ago I noticed he has gone significantly lamer, struggling to move, so have put him back in his stable until the vet arrives.

Common sense tells me it is likey to be an abscess as the lamness has onset quickly and now pretty much non weight bearing, but if worse........?

Positive vibes please x

Thanks guys - your vibes worked!!

The vet has just been and found a thorn up the white line in his toe area - she has dug as far as she can but there is still a black spot in there so poulticing and box rest for the next few days.

Poor lad hobbled out of the stable but managed to behave himself!

Thanks again for all your reassurance x

(note to self not to ride on the lane after the hedgecutter has been in the area - it is usually just tyres we lose at this time of year!)
