Worried, what could these symtoms be?

Smurph is booked in to see vet tomorrow at 9am but Im sitting here worrying. 9yr old neutered male IWS, last few days has been drinking a lot and as a consequence peeing a lot, he will stand for a good minute weeing!! This morning he was in the kitchen and all of a sudden, half squatted and it just ran out of him like a waterfall, he couldnt stop it, I yelled at him thinking he would realise what he was doing but he just kept weeing :( I have been asked to take a sample with me so they can run tests but any idea what could be wrong. Im guessing a kidney infection or similar but worried it could be quite serious. Are there any simple explanations guys.
 
I'm sorry I can't be of any help with what it could be. Diabetes springs to mind but that wouldn't explain the pain. Fingers crossed all goes well at the vets tomorrow.
 
Try not to worry, thats covers a good few conditions, 1 being a simple water infection, as suggested diabetes/cushings can often start like this too.
Is he still eating and bright in himself?
Let us know what happens won't you?
 
Thanks all. Pauline & Cayla, he is a bit lethargic and has put weight on recently, thought this was probably an age thing tbh. Both his mum, dad and aunty died between 9 and 10 which is why Im panicking a bit. He is still eating OK but is not overly bright tbh, quite happy curled up in his chair. Have sterilised a jam jar ready to catch me sample in the morning, I do hope noone is watching me tomorrow morning!
 
After going through this with my dog Jack I would ask for 2 blood tests to be done.

1)A thyroid test and 2) Test for Cushings.

Both are simple tests and both conditions are easy to treat.

Jacks blood test for Cushings came back negative but the thyroid came back as under active.He has been on Thyroxin for 3 weeks and he is a different dog.

Jack started to loss some of his fur on his chest but again this has started to grow since being on the Thyroxin.
 
A quick update, vet has taken blood and urine sample. A very quick look whilst i was with him showed blood in urine but no sugar so he is running a series of tests today and will call me this evening with results. Pauline, he did mention the thyroid as a possible problem, also bladder stones, although unlikely as apparently that is more likely to show as difficulty passing water and believe me, that is not the issue. He has given me some tablets to use if it shows as a fairly common infection only, but he is a vet I know and trust so will see what he finds. A few vibes for the Smurph please as he is def a bit out of sorts :(
