On saturday night the house next to the yard is having fireworks.
Some of you might have seen my post about Honey when the YO had fireworks 2 weeks ago.
She reacted really badly

Im having both the ponies in (Only had Honey then) so i dont know how Mysti will react.
Turning them out isnt a option because both ponies have jumped out before!

Im gonna stuff cotton wool in Honeys ears and put her fly veil on.
Ive put them both on Firworx and im gonna stay at the yard.
But got told today these are gonna be huge & loud ones (He mention gengis kahn

Thanks in advance x

leave them in, put a fly veil on (as you mention) but don't stick cotton wool in their ears!

Nice big feed, big haynet, nut ball - anything to keep them occupied.....might also be worth giving a bit of sedalin to take the edge off?

definately agree sedalin is worth considering but make sure you get it to them a little while before fireworks start also if there is plenty to entertain and you are there to sooth they may learn that nothing is gonna eat them :-)

Have you spoken to your vet about sedatives this time?

Fingers crossed it all goes well for you

Have discused it with my mum and the last few times weve sedated Honeys its made her worse and she panics which stops the sedative working

Will have to wait and see with Mysti!
On the fireworx label it says its very strong and even recomends not riding your horse at all while using it!

Horse at our yard reacts badly and is given Sedalin to take the edge off him. As long as its given about half hour before, hes fine.
Good luck, I hope they are ok.

did you have her injected or sedalined?

Def also put the radio on. Very rude of the neighbours to choose loud ones

We have a big organised display not far away on both Saturday and Sunday night. I often find spent rockets that have landed in my paddocks afterwards so the horses will have to be stabled

If only we could have just one night of fireworks, but no, they will be popping away for a week or more

Sedalined & acp'd her before.
She doesnt like injections, (rears, kicks, bites ANYTHING)

Can you put music on really loud to at least try and mask some of the sound of the fireworks. My horses don't like shooting and when there's a shoot nearby it helps putting the radio on full blast with some music. I find Queen works!

Don't know if it works with horses but had a fantastic tip from a vet with my old dog who was terrifed on bonfire night. Every time there's a bang, give a treat - they soon start to associate the bangs with good things and so aren't so scared. Maybe if they're too panicked it won't work but if you can get them early enough it might work? After years of being terrified despite sedatives and everything we tried, within 2 days he was barking with excitement and running up to us to get his treats!
