at the wkend a horse not far from me was slashed by someone. they climbed into his stable and cut a chunk out of its hind leg.

Thats awful, it make me so angry reading things like that. Its hard to beleive there are these sort of seriously sick people about. They should be found and have the same done to them what they have done to animals.

what chance have we got of an appropriate punishement for this crime if the person that did it ever got caught - we currently let murderers 'wander out' of 'open' prisons

and the criminals know a: their chances of being caught are something like 2% and their chances of a 'proper' prison sentence for their crime is about 5%

only people in this country that are now 'criminalised' are motorists

it is so cruel and its devastating to think that people can do this to a horse that clearly trusted humans, he must have been so confusedto why they were doing it to him. i'm jus so scared cos i've never had something like this done before, so close to home.

Disgraceful. Does anyone recall the incidents a few years ago with the cutting off of tails etc of horses I think it was around Cheltenham, terrible things happened I was wondering if they caught that offender.

I hope your worries are unfounded, do the patrolling game at least you'll get piece of mind

What really pisses me off is that if they caught them, they'd probably only get a fine (if that!).

Despite the fact that horses are like our children, this is not upheld in the law. I think if anyone maliciously attacks someone's animal they are clearly unhinged and need treatment or locking away (actually i'd prefer they were shot, as this is cheaper and would solve the overcrowding.... apparently not very PC though...)

Oh My God! How distressing. It's quite upset me as it's reminded me of Wilbur, DD's horse, who died whilst recovering from a similar attack.
