My pony has gone from lame on right hind to lame on both hind legs. He is really stiff and found the Farrier difficult. Farrier could only just manage to trim fronts and pony had hind legs right under him. When walking looks like he has got something stuck up his bottom. Have vet tomorrow but really worried he may have something nasty like a fractured pelvis.

Any one have any experience of these symptoms?

Sorry to sound vague but the symptoms you describe could be any number of things. It could be literally poorly balanced feet, bone spavin, to a fractured pelvis. I know this isn't of any help whatsoever but I think you just need to wait until the vet sees him tomorrow.
However, always useful to do a number of things first and to keep him comfortable.
-Have you taken the vitals? Pulse, respiration? etc.
-Can you see any cuts/lumps/heat/swelling which may give you a clue?
-Have other field mates come in with cuts, etc, which may give you a clue that they've been scrapping?
-Is it sudden onset or come on slowly? This may help with diagnosis.
Good luck and fingers crossed.

are you absolutely certain that your pony isn't showing signs of laminitis? It doesn't always show as blindingly obvious but the standing the way you have described does make me wonder if that is a possibility.

Thank you all. Sorry was a vague panicky post. Pony had trauma in wagon end if August and had s very.bruised pelvis. Had chiro/physiology who diagnosed and put areas of hid back right. Seemed to recover then lame right hind January. Physio came back out and found small tear to right hamstring. Did all advised rehab hacked out on Sat. Pony walked down a hill and shied jumping to his right and then exploded with broncs bucks tears. Very coolant and not like him.

So Sunday checked him and was lame right hind. But yesterday lame behind I'm both. Looks to me to be higher up in his bottom by way he us holding himself.

I'd bet in it that its not laminitis. No symptoms in feet, heat pulse. He only has a little swelling on fetlock. I've prodded and poked and cannot find a site where it may be the problem.

I'm assuming full veterinary support during this time, with the vet and phsyio working together - so what was the long term prognosis as advised by the vet??

Hi. Vet due out this afternoon so hopefully get some diagnosis. He was sound again quickly after wagon incident. Then has struggled on after January. Also has mildly raised liver enzymes too which has been going on from October.

Did he have the vet after the wagon accident and then again in Jan? The raised enzyme levels could be indicative of what's currently going on, and the pony could be tying up.

No just a chiropractor/Physio on those two occasions. He wasn't noticeably lame after wagon incident until a week and a half later. I wondered about tying up. He looks as if he can't move his hind legs and when walking just can't get them under him. Farrier also noted more wear on his front feet than normal so would seem he's been carrying himself on front end from the January injury.

I'm wondering whether there us any connection to raised liver enzymes and this back end lameness.

No just the chiropractor/Physio. Be wasn't noticebly lame after wagon incident until week and a half later. He seems to be unable to move his hind legs much and just can't get them under him.

Update: vet has been. Pony a lot better but been on box rest today. Not thought to be a broken pelvis or laminitis. Interestingly the pony was sound on a soft surface on the lunge but un sound on hard surface on lunge. A couple of areas of pain stout.d sacroilliac muscle right hind fetlock but vet as confused as I am. Bute for a week and two weeks rest although turnout allowed in small area and check again in 2 weeks. Pony seemed a lot happier too.

Have you tried using a supplement for arthritis or joints? Generally speaking they say if horse is lame on soft surface it's likely tendon/ligament related but if on a hard surface then it's usually bony related. I wonder if trying some kind of joint supplement may help.

Hi spike. He's on equine America glucoasimine with msm. Could try a different one but have always found that is good. He gets basic feed if topspec comprehensive, alfa a and glucoasimine. Vet mentioned his hicks could be suspicious but couldn't say for definite that that was the cause. Vet is leaning towards the pony coming right with rest. Guess I can only wait and see.

Thanks. Although this vet is relatively new to the practice I was very impressed with how thorough he was. He also is highly thought of by my Farrier so I do not feel I need a more experienced vet. The vet is confused because the pony has made a very good recovery in less than 24 hours and this is surprising. Pony's blood tests have also shown raised AST levels also so the plot thickens (I had vets run tests in his bloods to see if he had tues up). Although AST was elevated the other muscle enzymes were not so not evidencing tying up.
