A couple of days ago I noticed my horses poo was loose, its not completely runny. He's fine in himself and nothing has changed- his diet, routine, amount of exercise etc has all stayed the same. The weather has got warmer, and since it has he was quite hot under his rug so i changed it to a lighter standard neck one and now he's fine (he's got a blanket clip). So could it be the change in weather that has caused it?

Yes he lives out 24/7 in a herd

They have some of the small bales of hay each day always from the same supplier but maybe one or two of them was a bit off

More likely the one or two bales that have given him the trots are better quality rather than off.

Grass type and quality will vary from field to field, so even though you use the same supplier you need to bear in mind the supplier or agricultural contractor will be mowing all around your area.

You should be able to see the difference in soft, short old pasture hay against seeds or rye.

I have the same problem with haylage, same ag contractor for 20 years but the weather conditions and grass type will give changes in batches bought in.

Just keep an eye on him. The weather is too warm for January at 12 degrees here at the moment, grass will grow above 5 or 6 degrees, so you may find some fresh stuff in his field as someone above has pointed out.

I was going to say that I reckon it might be the grass. I recently out mine into their 'winter' field and they got a spring in their step! I keep putting hay out for them and they're not interested so I reckon they but be getting enough sonewhere and I reckon as its a bit Warner Thame grass must have some goodness in that it doesn't usually have....maybe?!
