My GWP and her daughter have gone in to be spayed today and I am beside myself with worry about them.
The younger one was having a phantom pregnancy (though thankfully has dried up now) and the vet wanted to go ahead despite the increased hormones as she was worried she was brewing up something else. It has been over 3 months since her season so we thought we were ok.
I have been putting this day off for so long, I am worried it will change them, worried they'll get incontinent, worried about the op itself and anaesthetic, worried how I will stop pup jumping all over them till they feel better.
Yes, I am a worrier and would really like some good vibes for them please.

What beautiful doggies :) Try not to worry too much, I've always had my bitches spayed over many years with absolutely no ill-effects. Lots of TLC and you'll all be fine. Lots of choccies while you wait is known to settle the nerves :D

Aww thanks Maisie, funnily enough I have eaten rather a lot of a large toblerone!
They are on their way home, vet said ops went well, older one bled a bit more than younger one but they expected that as she has had a litter of pups.
I can't wait to see them, it has been a long day and pup has missed them too.

Not good news, the youngest one is back in the vets after heavy bleeding this morning. They are hoping it is not an internal bleed but a blood vessel in her mammary tissue but are keeping her in for observation. The volume of blood pumping out was very scary :-(

I'll be watching the thread - please do keep us updated Dizzykizzy - as I'm somewhat in a similar position. I took my young dog in a couple of days ago as I was worried about Pyo. She is also having a false pregnancy and the vet said he wasn't worried about Pyo but best to get her sorted sooner rather than later - but he wanted to wait a few weeks for the false pregnancy to finish first.

I'm in two minds about whether this was the best thing to do as I feel myself that something is 'off' with my dog and was quite ready for them to whip her womb out immediately (although I find this prospect terrifying too!).

Sending vibes and hugs your way at this worrying time - hope your beautiful girl is back home with you soon, happy and healthy;-)

Thank you for posting and vibes.
No news yet so assume it is good news and she will be home later.
How old is your bitch? I would say to anyone now, don't delay like we did, I think the younger they are the easier they cope with it. That said I don't know if I will get Pup spayed now :-(

Holly is 3.

I know my vets are always quick to get on the phone if they need to - so yes, I'd say no news was good news!

Hope she's back with you soon;-)

Hopefullly to offer some reassurance, I had to have pyo op on my GSD bitch last week. I also found her in a huge pool of blood the following day. But after a day in the vets on fluids, and another day of huge pressure bandage, she was fine! Actually had her stitches out this morning. :) Very alarming at the time tho. Hope your girl will recover just as well. E x

Thanks all who have posted, we've been back to the vets with both of them today, like yours, the younger one had a pressure bandage and fluids yesterday and thankfully no sign of bleeding again today.
They are both much more comfortable and happy in themselves though they both now want to go out walkies and they aren't allowed :-(
We bought them medical t-shirts which are like doggy babygros and are excellent for keeping them off the wounds which are now uncovered. Back to the vet on Friday and hopefully they may be able to have their stitches out.
Fingers crossed we have turned the corner.....

:-(
still not out of the woods, Twiglet has got her stitiches out and all is well but Pippa has got mammary swelling and they think an infection brewing so is now on antibiotics and back to vets again on Tuesday.
Can anyone tell me about exercise once the stitches are out? The vet nurse said just let her go and do what she wants now but I am very nervous of doing that straight away?
