Worst day ever. I hate horses. I hate horse people.

really feel for you as it drives me insane when Bruce leans on the fence, never mind just buggering off :(

The leisure batteries i use cost £60 from a car/caravan parts shop and the energisers were £120 and NMT will tell you they are packing a right punch as she touched them the day after i set it up lol!

so electric and builders mesh panels over gateway would be the best option i think.

he is an absolute git!

Lots of sympathy from me - we have one who jumps out left, right and centre so I do understand your pain!

I would put a headcollar on (either a field safe one or an old leather one) and tie a strip of electric tape to the bottom of it - about 18" in length. Then if he does decide to stick his head over/through the fencing, he should get a zap from that as well.

Good luck!

Ditto proper grown up electrics. I leant over the fence to give T-bag a scratch and zapped myself just under my boob. I was tingling for ages and had a red mark for two days. I did say to the other livery lucky it was her as she's a 'big girl' boob wise and she'd of lost a nipple :biggrin3:

I know how you feel, we have been away for two weeks and on Monday I had a phone call from my parents who had come to check on my animals and they told me one of the minis was missing and the other two were calling and distressed. My parents looked everywhere and walked all the farm land around our fields thinking she had pushed her way through the fencing. No luck. I contacted my MIL who is more used to handling the horses and she arrived at our house to help with the pony hunt. They eventually found her in the fields across a river from mine in with a herd of sect A's. My MIL hadn't taken a headcollar with her in her rush to start hunting and the only thing she could think of using was her bra!!! She then had to lead my pony down the road back to our fields with a bra, wish I had seen that.:biggrin3:

This has actually made my day - thankyou!

Ned truly is a git!
I feel so sorry for you! Most people would of shipped him off months ago so well done for perseverance!

Only suggestion would be electric tape!

Chin up x

Good point from Ester there Chan! Glad you have.

I'm going to agree with everyone else, electric fencing! Thing is it's his choice if he zaps himself after the first go. It'll be his own fault and hopefully he will realise that.

Shame he doesn't have the same aversion to that gate from your old yard isn't it, that would have kept him back!

Not funny really though, it's a worry. Hope you get it sorted, and.....he starts damn well resting!

Naughty Ned. So sorry for you.
All good suggestions so far, really hope you can in-prison him IN. My only other suggestion, is to either ask (from local farmers), or get a 'farm gate'.. I mean the really tall, solid looking gates, that are used on cow yards/bull pens. If he can't see over, or through, it MAY deter him to launch himself at! We've got several on our farm, one of which towers over me... he'd have to be in practice for the puissance if he were to jump it!

All the best, let us know your invention.. take a picture!?

Yes! Some fab ideas, thanks guys :-)
I did look at farm gates on a public pc when my net was down, but didn't get far. Now I've got it back I'll have a proper look. I've seen him clear 6ft, so would need a solid 7ft I think!

Sorry Chan, if you get the gates up to 10 feet and he knows he can't get over them or punch a way through them he will look for another weak spot. You need to sort some proper electric fencing out and educate him as to the undesirability of getting stung.

I dont know Neds full history but now he's escaped a few times.

Is there something he could be given, a calmer etc, or may be get his bloods done, I'd he full of testosterone or unbalanced in something to make him so unsettle and want to escape?!

I hope you sort it!
Not just for his safety but your sanity!

Is he back in the field? What have you done now to sort it? If you were closer, I'd lend you lots of fence and an energiser that we use to keep the bull in place! - OK, so he doesn't jump, he just barges, but it has worked, so must give a good kick! Am I right in thinking the rest of the field is big high hedges? Is there any fence within the hedge?

Aw, thank you for the thought!

Yep, he's back in. YM demanded he had to get out the day he escaped.
The posts we used were wooden, which he'd snapped and then jumped. We replaced them with solid metal and wire mesh. He has tried to shove his way through, but *touch wood* has been unsuccessful so far!
Yea, there's lots of fence within the hedges (which are 10ft+) and they're good and thick too.

got to agree, electric is the answer, yes it's a big expense to buy it all in one go but the peace of mind it will give you will make it worth it's weight in gold!! we have a friends new forest pony who shares the little yard we rent, he is a monkey for finding his way through hedges etc so we've had to do the whole perimeter with electric and he totally respects that!

Yupp, totally agree that if it works, I don't really care how much I spend. He's never respected it before, even when connected to the mains, but it's worth giving it a go!

Poor you...
I have a horse who was using his hoof to pull back the gate lock which is on a spring and letting himself in to the yard:(
I put wire mesh on it....and he still managed to do it....soooo.....I actually electrified the gate...with the mesh...he only touched it once.....he must have felt like Frankenstein did..bless him......but he aint tried it again:)
I now have one strand on electric tape across the front of the gate about 1 foot in....I don't have mains....just the ordinary Rutland battery ttype but do use the proper batteries....and on one end I have a brass clip on to a brass d...which seems to make the thing more zappy...trust me...I touched it once by mistake and almost got myself a perm!
Just remember if you use a short length of tape to put it back on to itself at one end to keep the connection.
Best of luck
Bryndu
