Well I guess it's one way to teach your horse to run away from you after a fall ...

Honest horse as well - just stood there! didn't deserve that.
my thoughts exactly

Why the hell is it being jumped in a standing martingale? Stupid girl.

Actually whilst not a practice I would follow, I have seen many a horse jumped at county standard and as I understand (but don't particularly agree with, a correctly fitted SM should still be able to allow the horse to stretch over jumps) I personally believe that it doesn't but then SM doesn't usually enter my vocabulary.

Because she's showing hunters and standing martingales are part of the usual garb for hunters in the States.

What's wrong with a standing martingale?
they are more often than not fitted incorrectly and are very restrictive most notably when jumping thus not allowing the horse to make a natural and correct shape over a fence. it is shame they became fashionable and too many ignorant people used them so they have quite a bad rep especially when jumping (personally i wouldn't find them unnecessary...)

3 sessions in a loose, elasticated standing martingale did Reg more good than nearly a year of struggling without- he's now entirely martingale free...

Silly girl. How many times have I desperately wanted to make my horse feel half the disappointment I felt, though? However, I've always managed to go with the clenched teeth and hitting the lorry when everything else was sorted. Hopefully, she regrets that stupid display of temper and hasn't tried it again.

what a brat  it was a bit of a dirty stop mind...yes caused by her riding but it wasn't exactly a huge fence, was easier for it to jump than run out...doesn't excuse her reaction though!

re. the standing martingale...this one doesn't look especially well fitted but i actually think that they can be a very handy piece of kit with some horses. a lot of good top sjers use them regularly...

Idiot girl! Refusal was her fault anyway for the crappy approach (ok yeah the horse could definitely have jumped from there but perhaps has had to bail her out a few too many times before... I know my boy used to throw in a stop if he felt I was a bit lacking in the steering department and needed waking up!) and regardless of why it happened that is NEVER the correct response! Clever horse for refusing to let anyone near him til after she stormed off!

Stupid stupid girl. She doesn't deserve such a lovely horse.
I knew a girl who used to smack her horse everytime she fell off. One day she fell off out hacking, before she could hit the poor lad he ran off and dissapeared. He was missing for 3 hours. We even had to phone the police :( Luckly he was found hiding in a crop field. I realy didn't blame him for running away but was so relieved when we found him. Just a shame he had to go back to the spoilt brat :(

another personal fave they read this add out on radio 4 a while back luckily they kept a copy of what is said even though ad is obvs down now:

"Ballyderown Top Notch is a 10 year old gelding. He is a grade A registered show jumper who was recently acquired by his current rider. An extremely honest and experienced pony he will take any capable young rider to a very high level. The pony is being sold reluctantly as the rider is an unappreciative spoiled brat."

Absolutely love this
