I need talk to somone about work as my stress levels are through the roof and no-one is home!
Day started badly with a phone call from rich saying his horses got kicked in the face so he'll be late in. Fine, I got on with the stables, did waters, feeds etc. Rich arrived about 45mins lates and all was well, finished off and got boys in.
The we had a break and went out to groom. Did the two workers, all going well. Got to youngest percheron baby, tiny tim, picked fronts out, good, backs... uh oh. Scalding hot, digital pulse, wet, filled. Sh*t. Looked for and obvious cause and couldn't find one. Unfortuanlty we also couldn't tell if hes lame due to him being buted up to the nines for a sore front sole! Lame on both ends, great. So we ring the vet, carry on, do the harnessing demonstration and begin harnessing. Que radio going "vet will be here in 15mins as he's in the area." Unharness. Mill about talking to vistors as obv vet took longer than expected. Well turns out tim now has lymphangitus, infection in the legs due to feather mites. (he's be injected for them and we're so vigulent! grr) So we gave him the antibiotics and put him out as instructed so he's mobile.
Ok, not great but ok. Finally get out to do the rides at two.(shoulda been out at one) Going well untill on the second ride we turned at the bottom of the drive and as jacob (other baby percheron) came round theres a clatter.... look down and yes, theres a shoe without a horse attatched to it... Que "One to all Carriage Rides have finished for the day as Jacob has lost a shoe. Over and Out" from me. These shoes are exactly a week old and his hoof quality is fine so we're undistandible annoyed. But these things happen so we're smily. Now comes the worst part.
Fed, cleaned harness. Got tiny in for second antibiotics of the day and left scrooge in the padock. When the boys had done and we had finished we set about turning out. Rich said he'd take both the babies as they were only going to the padock opposite the yard. Weirdly I did say 3 times are you sure your ok. Anyway he wandered off with them and i went back inside for magnus and took him out the back door through the midden and heard an almighty crash. Crap. So shouted "hup!" at magnus and we ran to the padock to find 2 kids running round and idiot father, rich hauling himself up off the floor and both babies and scrooge peliting it round the feild, babies still having headcollers with 2m lead ropes on! and I later noticed a SHATTERED, not broken, gate on the floor. Some idiot of a "father" let his 5yr oldish kid run through a bush behind the babies! I mean what kind of person does that! I really dont understand some of our visitiors anyway, this made tim jump and he cantered off and jake joined in flattening rich in the process who thank god managed to tuck and roll. They followed the path and got to the gate, tim half stopped then tried to jump a 5 bar wooden gate, landed on it and it completely shattered! this frightened scrooge in the field too so they took off. padock is about 10 acres i think. Tim has cut his legs but hes already on bute and antibiotics but it could have been so much worse. I was imagining squered horses al la badminton vicarage vee last year or broken legs from ropes wrapped round them. Jake has a tiny cut but is fine. Scrooge is being a pansy now and when we turned him out in the park the gate slammed and he jumped out of his skin and nearly flattened me.
You know what makes this worse, our headcoachwoman is on holiday and everythings been fine until today... she's back tomorrow. We also went to the wardens to say we broke a gate... not happy. I don't think this day could have got much worse, putting one down woulda capped it off. *sigh*
Who'd work with horses.....
