Worst people you've had turn up for a loan/share...

I haven't claimed off them, it was just an off hand comment my dad made. Just would have been nice to have been made aware that's all. And about the bridle thing I thought it was dangerous in particular with the other horse chasing her around all the time. If the other horses were calm and not doing anything then it would have been better.

And to top it off, I managed to damage my car on their access to the yard with no warning of how dodgy it was otherwise I would have parked it on the road. Cost me £97 but luckily for them the share arrangement didn't start otherwise I might had considered claiming off them.

Eh? Plenty of people whack a bridle on in the field and you can't make a claim off them for YOUR bad driving, that's what your car insurance is for.

This is just silly. People's circumstances change. Not everyone just sells at the drop of the hat. I don't have a sharer, but I have recently been working 12hour days, and it would certainly make my life a lot easier...

If only everybody was honest when they repky. I had a girl up to share with one of the kids outgrown ponies. I asked if he was ok tacking up (pony was in a stable) . she said fine, I checked over the stable door to see how she was doing but obviously didnt have a clue. She wouldnt let me help , I re tacked pony up while she put her hat on etc but needless to say she wasnt asked back again. If she had been honest and willing to learn then she may well still be here now with all the next size up ponies .
I knew she had been at the riding school as thats how I met her but if she wasntt willing to learn then no hope round here.
I will be lloking for a bigger child soon and dont mind looking after them if they are willing to learn and help with ALL chores
 
I've had some dreadful experiences when looking for share horses. Main problem was people looking for a relatively experienced rider to school their problem horses for free. I'm fairly experienced but was looking for something that I could safely school/hack alone as don't bounce these days although greenness would be ok.

The worst one the girl said she rode him out fine alone and he then reared several times when I took him out. Turned out she always had her mum on foot as was too scared to do much with him. Also made out she'd rode him the day before my days (he needed regular work) when stirrup length was still set to mine from several days before and so on. End of share... Thanks but no thanks I'd like to stay alive...

Another was a cobby type (not really my thing) with an inexperienced owner who answered my ad. She wanted him schooled on a bit but was a total wet blanket with him. He was a nice sort but lazy and bucked when I pushed him into canter the 3rd time I schooled him (nothing major but he had knocked her confidence by doing it before with her) and she looked horrified. I am a very quiet rider and light in the hand but she obviously thought I was doing something awful when actually I just told her (tactfully) I thought his back needed checking but it was probably due to him also being unbalanced and objecting to being pushed forwards into the contact. Never heard from her again and expect she is still just walking round the school on a loose rein but fair dos!

Also rode several whilst at uni and found that you'd put in loads of effort getting them back in work and then the owner would sell them!

In fact I got so fed up of sharing generally that I got my own again in the end as it is so much easier to get them in a routine.
 
I'd love to think about sharing one day... when I'm ready... but I'm really worried now...

I actually did used to ride and re-school racehorses. Will this mean people won't believe me?

My only experience of sharing has been a woman practically giving me her horse to share when she found out I'd lost Dorey. I'd only turned up to buy a guinea pig run from gumtree and therefore only known her 5 minutes!
But she decided she liked me and gave me the run down on costs and availability there and then! :o

See, I actually like the sound of this!! I don't want to get emotionally involved again and if someone was able to sell a horse I'd been working on it'd be a massive boost to my ego :D
