Want to dissuade a friend from getting a dog - his ideas make me think he will be an irresponsible owner. He doesn't even like dogs - but getting it for his daughter who only lives with him part-time.

Would welcome your off putting arguments.

Can’t be left alone for more than a few hours, so a tie. Won’t be able to just get up and go out.
Cost of dog care if he does go away. It’s £40 a night where I live!
Hair everywhere
If a puppy, toilet training. Getting up early and during the night to let out
Possible chewing
Regardless of how he feels he will have to walk/exercise the dog daily.
Cost of Insurance, vet bills, annual vaccinations
Does he Intend to put the time and effort in every day for the next 10 plus years?!

Mine killed a rabbit and a pheasant. Both times while still on the lead! Also has been a nightmare to teach recall so spends every walk on the lead. Raw food cost £60 a month. Insurance £62 A month. I adore her and would never part with her but it’s a lot!

Your house will never truly be clean and tidy ever again. It might be for about 10 minutes after it's been cleaned, but if it doesn't dribble, or leave dust and dirt, it will probably leave hair wherever it goes.

Puppies are very hard work. A friend has a new puppy and it's harder work than a small child. It tries to eat everything and you have to watch it all the time.

Puppies are adorable cute balls of fluff, when they are someone elses. When they are yours its like having a new born baby that wants to and has the capability to wreck your house!

Those times when they poop but it clings and you have to chase them about to clean it before they wipe it on you/you're house/themselves/ the house again.
THIS!! Omg it is THIS! Nothing else, just this.

And the heartbreak at the end bit.

But on the day-to-day level, I cannot emphasise how much it is this ^^^^

Don't.

My whippet had a cling on during a walk the other day.

I didnt want to waste a poo bag fishing one tiny clinger, so I used a leaf.

Leaf did not live up to expectations and I got shitty fingers.

So that was nice.
