over winter my mare has been easy to catch, relaxed, laid back and happy. the last couple of weeks she has turned into a nightmare. she wont be caught, jumps around when tied on the yard alone, she's extra fizzy when riding. she was like this when i bought her last july, but i put it down to the new environment etc. she has an alter-ego i think! do you think something like moody mare or oestress would help her? she's having her second season all ready.

definately worth a go. my friend's horse is exactly the same and she is also in her second season. may be too late to make a real difference as best to start just before she starts her first season - but worth a try

Hi, i used to have my mare on a hormone supplement and it did seem to have a possitive effect. I used feedmark for all my supplements, quick delivery and well priced. Hope this helps a little

I had my mare on "Stroppy Mare" and it did work, it helped her when she was in season, it helped with any discomfort she experienced which made her a much happier person to deal with.
If the behaviour continues have a chat to your vet on the phone and see what they think, this is what I did and I found them very helpful, they don't need to come out or anything, just a chat on the phone

I have a very moody mare but find that a general calmer (I use NAF magic) works far better then the hormone ones designed for mares.

Have to add my voice in support of Stroppy Mare
My mare can be fiesty, but since being on Stroppy she is very relaxed and laid back, consisitent and doesn't show too many signs of being season.
Can only recommend it

Glad this topic came up!
My mare has been in season about 3 times in the last month! Is this normal?

she is the 1st mare ive had and is 14yo.
She is normally kept in a mixed field and yesterday got mounted!

She is not stroppy or mareish at all but she drives the boys mad and is causing a stir at our small yard and keeps encouraging the boys (if you know what I mean!)
Would stroppy mare suppliment help calm her hormones?

If your mare has been in season 3 times in the last month then this is NOT normal. I would have a chat with your vet. SHe may have an infection & may need washing out - or she may have a cyst.

I have not used it myself however our local feed merchant/tackshop who is a total supplement boffin might I add, sells mostly this because Naff Oestress because its proven to very good and a lot have tried others in the past and will only use the Naff one....and its not as expensive as others on the market and certainly seems to do the job.

Like all things, what works for one....

Have a chat with your vet and see what they think, but I definetely wouldn't rule anything out and it's worth a go

I use Oestress for my mare. I have also put her on Magnitude from american equine. Apparently the grass is lacking in certain nutrients at this time of year and can cause a magnesium deficiency. There was a post about this just last week.
