Very random question i know. I've tried everything you could possibly think of with regards to normal treatments. The thrush isn't bad - but i can't get it to go away completely.
I work in a lab, as does my OH. I was flushing one of our machines through with ethanol today & just wondered if something like that would work on thrush? And then there's all of these alcohol-based hand sanatisers that claim to kill most/all germs/bacteria. What do you reckon?

We've also got a lot of this: http://www.psuk.co.uk/polo/products/tisept_solution/

Would you? Or am i clutching at straws...?

Not sure about thrush but I have managed to get rid of a fungal skin infection on my horse using an alcohol based hand rub with fungicidal properties.

Do you not have to change the PH level in order to treat fungal infections? I would have thought anything like alcohol would dry the foot too much. How about good old stockholm tar? It has excellent anti bacterial properties.

my vet has just suggested good old fashioned hydrogen peroxide, i have been using septi cleanse but its not quite got rid of it completely

Might be too drying for the hoof.

Why not go to an agri shop and get a Setpti-Clense hoof rot spray - works very well. About £6

I use this to great effect. For something that really targets thrush what about human canestan cream - might have to visit lots of chemists to buy enough without raised eyebrows ! But I have resorted to this in the past also with good effect.

Farrier recommended bleach to me - just squirt it on! Worked a treat and cheaper than purple spray. But smelt like a swimming pool :D
